Clair W. Divert, Sr., age 83, of 1357 West Court Street, Chillicothe, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 10:45 P.M. at Heartland Nursing Home in Henry, IL.
He was born on February 5, 1923 in Fayette, OH the son of Park and Hildred Durbin Divert. He married Dorothy Hooper on November 19, 1945 in Vallejo, CA.
Surviving are three children: Sylvia (John) Kutz of Pecatonica, Catherine (Harvey) Oltman of Lacon, and Clair (Tammy) Divert, Jr. of Low Point; Sixteen Grandchildren; Seven Great grandchildren; one sister: Jean Young of Sandusky, OH; and one step-brother: Clifford (Florence) Dunn of Port Clinton, OH.
He was retired from the Teamsters Union. He was a truck driver for Norwalk Truckline and Spector Redball.
He was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He served in the Silent Service in the Pacific Theater, Pearl Harbor, and Australia. He was also in the U.S. Naval Reserves serving in the Seabees.
He volunteered as a driver for the Shuttle Bus Veteran taking veterans to the V.A. Hospitals.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe for more than 30 years.
He enjoyed his grand children, great grandchildren and his fishing trips in Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe. Rev. Curtis Cochran will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the American Legion 9 and the V.F.W. Post 4999, both of Chillicothe. Memorials may be made to Cystic Fibrous Foundation.
