William N. Reed, age 92, long time resident of Chillicothe died Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at Heritage Health Manor in Chillicothe.
Bill was born on April 4, 1923 in Saratoga Township to Nathaniel O. and Lilly (Holmer) Reed. He married Doris A. Fetzer on October 15, 1944 in Peoria. She died May 9, 2005 in Chillicothe.
Bill worked at Caterpillar for 6 years before joining his father, N.O. Reed & Son Building Contractors, in the home construction business. He worked as a carpenter most of his life, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, Charter member of the Chillicothe Sportsmen's Club, and a Charter member of Arrowhead Country Club. He was a past Master of the George Washington Masonic Lodge #222, and went on to become a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria, and then on to the Mohammed Shriners of Peoria.
Bill loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and golfing. He also enjoyed Big Band music, ballroom dancing and bowling. He loved life enjoying many fun times with his family and friends. He was an honest, hard working, kind and caring man who would help anyone in need.
Surviving is his son, Jeffrey R. (and Julie) Reed of Peoria, three grandchildren, Rachel Cox of Morton, Diane Koons (and Tim) of East Peoria, and Steve Reed of Omihachiman, Japan, and three great-grandchildren, Lucas Cox, Noah Koons, and Jeffrey Tomoki Reed. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 5-7:00 pm on Thursday evening, September 17, 2015 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Masonic Rites will be held following the visitation. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the Chillicothe City Cemetery.
