Shawn Simonsen

Shawn L. Simonsen, age 45, of Peoria, passed away at UnityPoint Proctor Hospital on Monday, September 25, 2017. He was born to Scott Simonsen and Linda Shugart on February 13, 1972 in Peoria. Shawn is survived by his mother, Linda (Allen) Potter of Peoria; longtime girlfriend, Mary Pat Taylor of Peoria; sister, Jennifer (Rodney) Lucas of Tomball, TX; half sister, Nichole Sanders and her son Cade Sanders of Austin, TX; and nieces Abbie and Sophia and nephew Austin, all of Tomball, TX. His grandparents preceded him in death. Shawn attended Illinois Central College and earned an Associate's Degree in IT. He worked for HGS in Workforce Management. Shawn enjoyed computer and video gaming and watching wrestling and movies. He also loved watching football and college basketball, and was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan. A memorial service for Shawn will be held at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Rev. Dr. Tim Ozment will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in honor of Shawn may be made to American Heart Association or Stray Animal Midway Shelter.
