Ruth Parkins, age 90, passed away on Friday evening March 4, 2016 at UnityPoint Proctor Hospital.
Ruth was born on July 12, 1925 in Forest City, IL the daughter of Harry and Henrietta (Nannen) Selke. She married Leroy "Bus" Parkins on June 3, 1942 in Roseville, GA. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1993.
Ruth is survived by her children, Dennis (Jackie) Parkins of Chillicothe and Mary Simkins of Chillicothe and two grandchildren, Heather Mary (Michael) Shuler of Los Angeles, CA. and Lindsay Autumn (Kevin) Dietrich of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, Dan Simkins, and two brothers, Lawrence and Harold Selke.
Ruth was a Nurses Aid at Proctor Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Manito American Legion Post 561 Auxiliary. She enjoyed needlework and playing cards.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito, IL. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5-7:00 PM at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Memorials may be made to Pearce Community Center, Chillicothe.
