Ruth M. Lied, age 104, of Peoria, passed away at Proctor Place in Peoria on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.
Ruth was born on January 31, 1911 in Peoria to Edwin F. and Mary (Walker) Lied.
She is survived by her good friends Josephine and John Roecker and Bette Eggers.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Ruth earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Bradley University in 1933 and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Illinois in 1941. While abroad in England, she also earned another Masters Degree in English Literature from Oxford College. Ruth retired from teaching in 1976 after having taught for 45 years. She taught at Von Steuben Middle School, was a member of the Peoria Area Retired Teachers Association, Rebecca Church Circle, Grace and Peace Lutheran Church, and the Illinois Art League.
Ruth was a traveler and had the opportunity to see Europe and Central America. She enjoyed photographing her journeys and water color painting.
It was Ruth's wish to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church at 11:00am. Pastor O. Wayne Shelksohn will officiate. Visitation will be held at 10:00am at the church. Burial will be held at a later date in Parkview Cemetery.
