Rodney Lucas, Sr.

Rodney S. Lucas, Sr., age 65, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, September 6, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Rod was born on April 10, 1956 in Peoria, Illinois to Charles E. and Wilma J. (Terveen) Lucas.  He married Victoria “Vickie” Murphy on May 22, 1981 in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife, Vickie; his children, Rachel Lucas of Peoria, IL, Rodney (Jennifer) Lucas, Jr., of Tomball, TX, Sarah (David) Crook of Chillicothe, IL and Phillip (Jenn) Lucas of Sparland, IL; eight grandchildren, Loren Crook, Abbie Lucas, Erynn Crook, Sophia Lucas, Austin Lucas, Jarod Crook, Mia Lucas and Dominic Lucas; two sisters, Cheryl (Denny) Beddow of Chillicothe, IL and Judith (Jerry) Stenger of Kearney, MO; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rod worked for Chillicothe Meat Locker for over 26 years, before retiring as a Maintenance Technician for Walmart Distribution Center after 20 years.  He was a member and past-president for the Peoria Casting Club, CEC Booster Club and the Chillicothe Summer Youth Association.  He was also a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church.  Rod loved hunting and fishing with family and friends.  He always had a can of Coca-Cola in his hand.  He was Mr. Fix-it, always lending a hand and advice to anyone in need.  Rod also loved spending time with his family.  He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and supporting them at their events.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 10:30am at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Chillicothe.  Fr. Matt Deptula, Fr. Nathan Goebel, and Dcn. Bob Murphy will be officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 5pm to 7pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe with recitation of the Rosary at 7pm.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Susan G.
