Robert L. "Bob" Bennett, 80, of Chillicothe passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.
Bob was born on April 26, 1935 in Peoria, IL, the son of Francis L. and Mary V. (Martin) Bennett.He married Beverly A. Lishman on May 27, 1954 in Galesburg.
Bob is survived by his wife, his children, Becky (Fred) Darche of Peoria Heights, Cheri Schumacher, Joy (John) Lowery and Bob E. (Peggy) Bennett all of Chillicothe. Also surviving are six grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren and one sister Lois (Walt) Potendyk of Peoria Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Carol Bornsheuer.
Bob spent 48 years in the trucking industry making many friends across the country. He retired from Truck Centers, Inc of Morton, IL.
Bob always said his wife was one fine lady. Family was important to him. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He was very active with Chillicothe's "Relay for Life" as a survivor himself, having a family team called "Bev's Pit Crew".
Gone but never forgotten always in our hearts.
It was Robert's wish to be cremated. A Celebration of Life with food and fellowship will be held for Bob on Sunday, January 3, 2016 from 5-7:00pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe followed by a memorial service conducted by Rev. Ron Martz. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials in Bob's honor may be made to Relay for Life.
