Phyllis Brown

CHILLICOTHE-Phyllis Jean Brown, 93, of Peoria passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 at her home. Jean was born on February 12, 1925 in Wenona the daughter of Arthur and Ruth E. (Griffin) Davis. She married George E. Brown on Aug. 24, 1924 in Peoria. Surviving are her children: Elizabeth (Gene) Southard of Peoria, Joseph R. Brown of Peoria, Arthur (Lorraine) Davis of East Peoria; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor Ball of Okeechobee, FL. She is preceded by her parents, husband, 2 daughters, 1 son, 1 sister and 1 brother. Jean was a member of the Chillicothe United Methodist Church. She was the family matriarch, the family chef extraordinaire, often referred to as the "boss", the master of her garden, the kindred spirit with the orneriness of a tiger, and the loyalty like none other. Her ability to win dice games was uncanny and almost suspicious. She was always there for kids games, weddings, births, hospital visits, concerts in the park, and wouldn't ever miss a polka! In fact, those who knew "Jeanie" could hardly match her spunk, the twinkle in her eye or her amazing moves on the dance floor. The impact she had on all of us was great and the hole she has left behind is greater yet. Good-bye Ma Brown. A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2-4:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to ARK or to her church.
