Opal Westerman

Opal Fay Westerman, age 90, of Edelstein, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Evergreen/Legacy Assisted Living in Chillicothe.

Opal was born on April 8, 1929 in Chillicothe to Allen and Gladys Fay (Adams) James. She married Norman G. "Toots" Westerman on October 18, 1948. He preceded her in death along with her parents; three sisters, Mary Simpson Beltramini, Betty Crose, Norma Griffis; and two brothers, Richard and Earl James.

Surviving are her children, Sherry (Jay) Johnson of Edelstein, Elaine (Jim) Dennison of Chillicothe, Mike (Pam) Westerman of East Peoria and Trish (Mike) Connor of Chillicothe; her grandchildren, Mark (Jamie), Melissa (Brian), Marnae (Jeff), Tammy, Tom (Bridget), Jennifer (Steve), Ben (Jessie), Lindsay (Joe), Whitney (Ricky), Megan and Mitchell; and 25 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Bill James, Frank (Barbara) James, Joyce (Jack) King, Vern (Debbie) James and Jim (Linda) James, all of Chillicothe; and many nieces and nephews.
Opal was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and she loved being with her family, especially having everyone over for food and fun.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service on Friday, July 12, 2019 at 1:00pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe with visitation held one hour prior. Burial of ashes will be at Chillicothe City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
