Marlys Gibson

Marlys Jo Ann (Dotson) Gibson passed away peacefully at her home in Chillicothe, IL on May 12, 2021 at the age of 87. She was born to Roland and Minnie Lynn (Coatney) Dotson on April 9, 1934 in Elk Creek, Missouri. After graduating high school, she moved to the Peoria area and took a job as a card punch operator at Illinois Mutual. She married Lyle Gibson on September 3, 1955 in Bartonville, Illinois. They were blessed to have celebrated nearly 66 years together.

Jo Ann enjoyed lemony desserts, her mom’s potato soup, birds and working in her flower beds and most of all she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 brothers and 4 sisters and has missed them every day. Her family and friends can only imagine the joyful reunion taking place in the hereafter. In the days to come, they will find comfort in their memories of her and in knowing that she is finally home.

Jo Ann leaves behind a devoted husband and their three daughters; Theresa (Paul) McHenry, Diana (Mick) Shane, Sherry (Jack) Chambers. She left her job at Illinois Mutual to raise her girls, volunteering in their school classrooms and attending their activities. She loved them well and raised them to be independent, determined women.

Perhaps the greatest of her joys were her grandchildren James, Ryan (Hannah), Chris, Alyse, Rae, Megan, Cole, Nathan and Noah, and her 4 great grandchildren. She was always happy to spend time with them and supported them in their various activities, interests and achievements.

Though no amount of gratitude can adequately suffice, the family is thankful for the Hospice team from Unity Point Health for providing much needed care and comfort for Jo Ann and for her entire family. They allowed her journey to be as peaceful as possible.

A one hour visitation will take place at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 10am with a graveside service immediately following at 11am at Chillicothe City Cemetery.
