Lois Pronga

October 16, 1940 — November 11, 2015

Lois A. Pronga passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at her home in Chillicothe, IL. She was 75 years old.
Lois was born on October 16, 1940, in Duluth, MN to Paul and Esther Boettcher. She was raised in Washington, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa as an RN. In 1962, she married Louis
Pronga, her husband of 53 years.
Lois held various positions in nursing throughout her career: working for Proctor Hospital, Chillicothe Nursing Home, Caterpillar, and the American Red Cross. Lois was an avid reader who appreciated and assimilated a rich vocabulary. She had tremendous curiosity about the world around her, demonstrated by her love of nature, deep conversations, and learning new subjects. She regularly bonded with her family during outdoor activities like hiking, biking, cross country skiing, and canoeing. Her favorite destination was the North Shore of Lake Superior, where she loved to sit by the lake watching the sunrise and listening to the sound of the waves on the shore.
Lois's compassionate and loving nature had a positive and lasting effect on loved ones and friends. A favorite quote of hers encapsulates how she lived: "In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you."
Lois is survived by her husband (Louis), brother Richard (Linda) Boettcher, and three sons: Jeff (Catherine) and Trevor of Austin, Texas and Andrew (Traci) of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Alexa, Mitchel, Jessica, Sabrina, and Luke.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Doctors Without Borders or Pearce Community Center.
Lois wish was to be cremated and no services will be held. Weber Hurd Funeral Home is charge of arrangements. Lois' memorial website may be viewed at
