Linda Sue Tolly, 74, of Chillicothe, passed away Friday morning, October 13, 2017 in Peoria at UnityPoint Proctor. Born June 5, 1943 in Champaign, IL to Melvin and Isabel Collins, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Tolly, August 15, 1965 at Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria, IL. He survives along with two sons: Michael (Holly) Tolly of Lemont, IL and Jeffrey (Jody) Tolly of Chillicothe; granddaughters Jessi, Charlotte and Olivia; grandson Jackson; brothers Jerry (Karen) Steenbergen of Delavan, IL; and Phil (Karen) Steenbergen of Bellevue, IL; a sister-in-law Sue Tolly of Washington, IL; a brother-in-law Larry Cook of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and nine nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her mother Isabel Steenbergen, her dad Charles Steenbergen, her father, a brother-in-law, Chuck Tolly, a sister-in-law Jerry Kay Tarwater, a sister-in-law Linda Cook, and by one nephew. Linda graduated from Manual High School in Peoria and was employed by Kroger, then by Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a teletype operator, and then by Stretch and Sew as an instructor. Following graduation from Illinois Central College with a degree in early childhood education, she was an aide with the Special Education Association of Peoria County and then a teacher's assistant at Banner Grade School in the Dunlap School District. She cherished her entire family, particularly her grandchildren, for whom she frequently shopped or made things for birthdays and special occasions; and she relished opportunities to attend their many activities. Linda endeavored every day to be the best wife, mom, nana, and grandma she could possibly be. An avid reader, Linda spent countless hours creating beautiful keepsakes through crafts such as sewing, cross-stitching, quilting and needlepoint. She loved being a homemaker, especially cooking, baking, decorating for the various seasons and holidays. She enjoyed playing golf in her husband-and-sons foursome at Arrowhead County Club and making her "bucket list" trip to the Masters with them. She also liked flower gardening, participating in water aerobics at Pearce Community Center, playing Pinochle, and volunteering at Heritage Health in Chillicothe. She was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peoria and actively participated in many of the Church's Dorcas Circle Women's Group activities and projects. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Peoria with Pastor Philip Doublestein officiating and being assisted by Pastor Ron Miller. Visitation will be held at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe on Monday evening from 5-7:00 pm. and one hour prior to the service time at the church. Burial will be held in the Chillicothe City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
