Lee Youngman

Lee Youngman, 83, of Chillicothe died Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Lee was born on June 2, 1932, in Fairview, Ill., the son of Esta and Annabelle (Kaler) Youngman. He married Grace E. Tallon on April 27, 1957, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Canton, Ill.

Surviving are his wife, Grace of Chillicothe; his children, Mary Vecco-Newman of Peoria, Kathleen (Mark) Davis of Palos Verdes, Calif., Edward (Katherine) Youngman of East Peoria, Joseph (Candace) Youngman of Roselle, Ill., James (Dianna) Youngman of West Peoria, Theresa (Jeff) Livengood of Pekin and Thomas (Laura) Youngman of Chillicothe; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie; and brother, Gale.

Lee was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1950 to 1954. He was a member of both the East Peoria V.F.W. Post 2078 and American Legion Post 9 of Chillicothe.

Lee was an accountant, working as a credit manager for Foster and Gallagher, Inc., and then for the Peoria Journal Star.

Lee was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe and a member of the Knights of Columbus 427.

Lee had a love for sporting events, all sporting events, whether his children or grandchildren were involved or not. His favorite teams were the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He was a proud member of the Greater Peoria Area Hall of Fame.

Lee was the co-founder of the ROMEO Club. He had a gift of remembering and telling jokes to everyone. He also loved to take his wife, Grace, dancing.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday evening, Feb. 16, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe, with a prayer scripture service being held at 5 p.m. A funeral mass will be on Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. at the church. Fr. Keith Walder will be officiating the mass, with Homilist Gregory Luigi Serangeli. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time at the church. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight, St. Edward Catholic Church or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
