Larry J. LeRoy

Larry James LeRoy, age 85, of Chillicothe, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Accolade Nursing Home in Peoria.

Larry was born on November 20, 1937 in Peoria, IL to Paul and Viola (Calhoun) LeRoy.  He married the love of his life, Joann Cross on September 12, 1959 in Peoria.  She survives.  Surviving are his children, Randy (Nell Jean) LeRoy of Baltimore, MD, Tamara (Todd) Anderson of Normal, IL and Andrew (Kenna) LeRoy of Chillicothe, IL; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Susan Cleeton of Peoria, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Paul Raymond LeRoy.

Larry began his career in banking at the young age of 21.   He worked in many capacities in the banking industry starting as a messenger at South Side Trust and Savings Bank and worked his way up to a loan officer and retired as a Vice President at First Federal Saving and Loan. Larry attended and graduated from banking school at the University of Virginia as well as serving his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves for eight years.

Before suffering a debilitating stroke in January of 1988 at the age of 50, Larry was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He and JoAnn loved socializing with their beloved boating and RV friend and all the friends they made on their travels around the U.S.    Although he had little words, he communicated fully with his smile and laugh and an occasional shake of his cane.
