Katherine Charlotte Kelly, 85, of Chillicothe passed away on Monday, September 14, 2015.
Katherine was born on March 28, 1930 in Warren, MN the daughter of Ernest and Elsbeth McCartney. She married Fred Kelly on December 8, 1948 in LaPrairie Township, Sparland. He survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Shari (Richard) Archibald of Peoria, Kathie (Gene) Gibler of Toulon, Laurie (Steve) DeSmet of Lacon, and Becky (Wayne) Carlin of Chillicothe; three sons, Randy (Karen) Kelly of Washington, Jim (Brenda) Kelly of Chillicothe, and Todd (Emily) Kelly of Downs; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne (Delores) McCartney of Lacon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marjorie (Bill) Kelly, Georgia (Milan) Russell; one brother, Willard (Dorothy) McCartney; and one granddaughter, Julia Katherine Kelly.
Three of Katherine's greatest loves were her husband of 66 years and eight months, her family, and her church. She was a devoted member of LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church in Sparland. She was active in the church's choir, the United Presbyterian Women's fellowship, and the quilting group. Katherine was a farm wife for most of her life. She worked many years as an election judge and later, babysat and cleaned homes. She enjoyed being outdoors, tending to her yard and flowers, working with puzzles, and reading, but her greatest joy was being a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
A funeral will be held for Katherine at 1:00pm on Friday, September 18, 2015 at LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time at the church. An additional visitation will be held Thursday evening, September 17, from 5:00-7:00pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Pastor Melinda Stephenson will officiate. A luncheon will follow.
Memorials may be made to LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church in Sparland or UnityPoint Hospice. Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe is in charge of arrangements.
