John McGann

John Patrick McGann, age 76, of Monica passed away on Friday evening, August 25, 2017 at UnityPoint Methodist Hospital surrounded by his family. John was born at home in Chillicothe on January 24, 1941 to Mark "Mac" and Loretta (Pugh) McGann. He married Nancy Herold on May 14, 1960 in Quincy. John was a long time resident of Chillicothe and attended Chillicothe High School. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a Pipe Fitter for over 30 years before retiring in 1994. He was a board member of the Chillicothe and Rome Youth Activities. He was instrumental in the development of Gotch Fields in Rome. John was a charter member of the Chillicothe Lions Club. He was also a member of and past treasure of the Peoria Casting Club. John was in the Greater Peoria sports Hall of Football. Surviving is his wife, Nancy of Monica; his sons: Michael (Kim) McGann, Chillicothe, Patrick McGann, Edelstein, Mark (Mary) McGann, Chillicothe and Timothy "Skillet" McGann, St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Connor, Haley and Brenden; a sister, Marie (Jack) Taleshak; and a brother, Jim (Cheri) McGann; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin daughters, Amy and Anne. John loved camping, traveling, and drinking beer in his screen in porch. He was a die hard Cub fan and his greatest joy was seeing the Cubs win the World Series. John will be greatly missed by his family and friends, he never knew a stranger. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 from 11:00 am. at St. Edward Catholic Church, Chillicothe. Msgr, Michael C. Bliss will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Burial will be held in the Blue Ridge Cemetery.
