Irene Korte

PEORIA - Irene J. Korte, 100, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2017 at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Irene was born on December 24, 1917 in Chicago the daughter of John and Josephine (Rolewicz) Burns. She married Leroy Korte on December 2, 1946 in Chicago, IL. Surviving are two sons: James (Lynne) Korte of Peoria and Steven (Celeste) Korte of Burnsville, MN; grandchildren, Matthew Korte of Maple Grove, MN, Chris Korte of Peoria, Mary C. (Dr Michael) Schreuder of Anderson, SC., Holly Korte of Peoria and Stewart (Jenna) Korte of Madison, WI; a great granddaughter, Hanna Korte of Maple Grove, MN. Irene lived a full, vibrant, and enviable life, charming everybody she met with her positive attitude. She wandered through Mexico during the Great Depression, went whale watching in Canada at the age of 87, celebrated her 90th birthday at Disney World, and attended Mass in Rome with the Pope. She was a devout Catholic. A visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 - 2:00 pm at Cumerford-Hurd Funeral Home located at 428 West McClure Avenue, Peoria. A brief service will be held after the visitation at the funeral home. Entombment will be held on Monday morning at All Saints Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Des Plaines.
