Fredrick Joseph Grimm, 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 27, 2022
with his loved ones by his side. Fred was born on October 14, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois. He was
the son of the late Joseph and Marie Grimm. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years
Kathy Grimm. Fred was a very devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and a friend
to so many.
He is survived by his daughter Kelly (Robert) Ruther of New Lenox, IL, sons James Grimm of
Pekin, IL, and Frank (Jennifer) Grimm of Carmel, IN, and grandchildren Abby Ruther, Dani
Bertalaro, Hannah (Bradley) Miller, Tyler Grimm, Addison Grimm and Delaney Grimm. He is
also survived by three great grandchildren, and his companion of 14 years, Diane Onopa.
Fred was a substation electrician with CILCO, retiring in 1996. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Chillicothe Fire Department for 21 years, retiring as an assistant chief. He loved to tinker in his garage and always had a tool to lend to a friend or neighbor. He had fond memories of growing up and raising his family in Chillicothe and our annual summer vacations in Wisconsin. His stories about life experiences and friendships through the years were always humorous and entertaining.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church
in Chillicothe, Illinois. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, with the funeral mass at 11:00am. A
reception will follow the burial at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fred Meister Chillicothe Community Firefighters Association, 217 W. Chestnut Street, Chillicothe, Illinois 61523.
