Fern Ellen (Uphoff) Prater, age 74, of Chillicothe passed away on October 10, 2015 at home surrounded by her
family and friends.
Born on June 9, 1941 in Streator to Elmer "Rusty" and Doris (Farner) Uphoff. She married M.H("Bud") Prater on
February 18, 1962 in Creve Coeur, IL.
Fern is survived by her husband M.H.("Bud") of Chillicothe; two daughters, Amber M.(Mark) Stephens and Crystal L,(Robert "Rob")E. Raynor, Jr., both of Chillicothe; six grandchildren, Christopher "CJ" Swearingen of Navarre, FL, Jacob D. (Ariana) Stephens of Chillicothe, Jillian M. Stephens of Chillicothe, Courtney M. (Matt) Brown of Hanna City, Cheyne R.(Erica) Raynor of Chillicothe, and Cassie J. Raynor of Bloomington; one
great-grandson, Logan D. Swearingen of Navarre, FL; and siblings, Donald Uphoff of Peoria, Sandra Wiebler of Bartonville, and John (Lynn) Uphoff of Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Sharon.
Fern was an Entrepreneur in the Chillicothe area and owned and operated Century 21
Showcase Properties, Praters Showcase Properties and The Tanning Place, just to name a few.
She was also involved in other businesses, including building spec homes. She
graduated with Bachelor's Degree in Business in 1983 from Sagamon State University. She
enjoyed her Grandchildren most of all, followed by traveling with Bud anywhere
in the world, (they made it to quite a few places) reading and she had a 'green thumb' as her park like setting showed.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A funeral service
will be held for Fern on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Rome Baptist Church in
Chillicothe at 11:00 AM. Celebration of Life and Luncheon Immediately following.
Visitation will be held at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
