Elmer Long

Elmer L. Long, 89, or Chillicothe died at Heritage Manor on Sunday, April 19, 2015. Elmer was born on Nov. 5, 1925 in Mountain Grove, MO, the son of Joe and Eliza (Owens) Long. He married Velma Hutchison on Dec. 23, 1946 in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2003.
He is survived by one son, Brent (Kathy) Long of Chillicothe; and one daughter, Brenda (Tom) Horan of Chillicothe. Also surviving are five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one sister. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Elmer worked at WABCO for 38 years, a job that sent him to Nevada, Arizona, and even Australia to assemble their first 200 ton truck.
Elmer enjoyed golf, dart ball, bowling, fishing, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a life time member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge 222 A.F. & A.M.
He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Friday, April 24, 2015 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home, with a visitation will also be on Friday from 10-11:00 am at the funeral home. Following the visitation, Masonic Rites will be conducted by his Lodge. Burial will be held at Chillicothe City Cemetery following the funeral. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
