Dorothy Johnson

Dorothy R. Johnson, 100, formerly of Peoria, IL, passed away on February 21, 2016 at Prairie Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Chicago Heights, IL. Dorothy was born in Chicago, IL on March 30, 1915. She and her husband, William E. Johnson moved to Peoria in 1941.
Dorothy worked at Bergner's and retired from Ethan Allen Country Store. After retiring, she volunteered at The Lutheran Home in Peoria. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, needlework, quilting, gardening and care giving. Her greatest passions were singing and dancing. In honor of Dorothy's long happy life, she participated in a five-year interactive display at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry along with four other Centenarians. The display is located in the YOU! Experience at the museum.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill), parents, a brother, sister, and niece. She is survived by daughters, Phyllis E. Grove of Evansville, IN and Bonnie S. Radtke (Shane) of Steger, IL, six grandchildren, Molly Lynch (Stacey), Meloney Higginbotham (Mike), Jenise Herbine (Kerry), Todd Smiser (Leeann), Mark Smiser (Jessica) and Ty Radtke. Also surviving are 13 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild.
Funeral service and visitation will be held at Springdale Cemetery Mausoleum in Peoria on February 27, 2016. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dorothy to Prairie Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (345 Dixie Hwy, Chicago Heights, IL 60411) or Peoria Redeemer Lutheran Church.
