Dennis M. "Denny" McGaughey

Dennis Michael McGaughey, age 77, of Chillicothe, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Denny was born on June 7, 1945 in Annapolis, MD to Albert Wayne and Margie Virginia (Silverthorn) McGaughey.  He married Diane Collins on September 20, 1969 in West Peoria, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Diane; his children, Jeffrey M. (Dana Boone) McGaughey of Frisco, TX, Laura C. (David) Held of Kernersville, NC and Debbie M. Jarman of Chillicothe, IL; 10 grandchildren; his brother, Stan (Cheryl) McGaughey of Banning, CA; his sister, Donna Dunbar of Peoria, IL; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lynne Kearney.

Denny served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War before becoming an insurance adjuster for Auto-Owners Insurance Company in 1979.  He retired after 29 years in 2008.  Denny was an active member at Arrowhead Country Club where he loved to golf and socialize with dear friends.  He also enjoyed reading, karaoke and was quite the joke teller.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe from 1pm to 3pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
