David Scott Witherspoon

David Scott Witherspoon, age 56, of Chillicothe, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at his home.

Dave, or “Wimpy” as he was known to his buddies, was born on January 19, 1967 in Peoria County to Clyde and Lois (Gulick) Witherspoon.  He married Bonnie Gilmore on September 28, 2021 at Jubilee State Park in Brimfield.

Surviving are his children, Cody (Manami) Witherspoon of Maryland, Tyler Witherspoon of Texas, Miranda Witherspoon of California, Leanne (Matt) Sturtevant of Kewanee, IL, DJ Gibler of Chillicothe, IL and Swayde Gibler of Geneseo, IL; his grandchildren, Wesley and Owen Witherspoon, Brian Scott Rahrle, and Ryne, Shaelynn, Payton and Brayden Sturtevant; his siblings, Pamela (Harry) Harrison of Florida, Deb (Robert) Farley of Georgia, Lynn Jones of Chillicothe, Illinois, Mike (Doneta) Witherspoon of Eureka, IL and Kevin Gillam of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sibling.

David worked for Galena Road Gravel in Chillicothe.  He loved the outdoors and doing outdoor activities with his family, especially fishing, boating, ATVs, camping and their endless adventures while searching for Bigfoot!

Services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 11am at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe with visitation held one hour prior to the service.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services. Memorials in Dave’s name may be made to the American Heart Association.
