Coral "Jean" Gauwitz, 91, of Chillicothe passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at UnityPoint Proctor Hospital.
She was born June 7, 1924 in Chillicothe to Henry and Mildred Schaffner. She later married Bob Gauwitz on April 22, 1944. He preceded her in death on December 22, 1992.
She is survived by two children, Dan (Elizabeth) and Steve Gauwitz; two grandchildren, Nicole and Eric Gauwitz; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Sophia Gauwitz, all of Chillicothe. Also surviving are two sisters, Marge Dell and Norma McWilliams; one brother, Verne "Bun" Schaffner; one sister-in-law, Mary Bradley; and one brother-in-law, Chuck Gauwitz. When Elizabeth joined Jean's family, she was blessed with three new granddaughters, Jennifer Simmons, and her children, Jordon, Rebecca, and Olivia; Julia (Bob) Malin, and their four children, Josiah, Henry, Charlie, and Katie Sue; and Jeanna (Chris) Adkinson, and their three children, Rachel, Christina, and Andy. She also had many nieces and nephews.
The last place Jean worked at was White Farm Equipment.
She was a lifetime member of Mossville United Methodist Church.
The light of Jean's life was her family. She adored her grandchildren, and it was always a joy for her to see them as well as her two boys. She always had a smile on her face. Jean loved seeing her family and friends and will be missed by so many.
Jean loved to play bingo at St. Joseph and always enjoyed rides on Sunday in the country, with stops in Toluca or to Kenyon's for lunch.
The past four years, Jean resided at St. Joseph Home in Lacon.
A funeral will be held for Jean at 11:00am on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday evening from 5-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chillicothe City Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Herath will preside.
Memorials in Jean's honor may be made out to Mossville United Methodist Church or St. Jude's.
