Clarence John Gentzen, 85, of Peoria formerly of Princeton died on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Lutheran Hillside Village.
He was born on May 8, 1930 in Chicago to Clarence and Rose (Ring) Gentzen. He married Jeanne A. Hempel on August 14, 1954 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on November 21, 2011.
Clarence retired from the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago on May 31, 1990 where he worked as a carpenter. He was a long time member of the VFW Post 3579 in Park Ridge and VFW Post 4323 in Princeton. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church on the Hill in Princeton.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Gentzen of Princeton and Michelle (Glenn) Lawson of Princeton and three grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, and Rachel. He was preceded in death by parents, a brother Albert Gentzen, and a sister, Rosemary Fry.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. Pastor Kim Lee-Brown and Pat Monroe will officiate. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service time at Lutheran Hillside Village. Burial will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Hillside. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Hour Ministries, 660 Mason Ridge Center, St. Louis, MO. 63141.
