Cecil Horton, 82, of Peoria passed away peacefully at the Cornerstone Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 to be with the Lord.
He was the second of four brothers born to James and Abbie (Denney) Horton on January 17, 1933 in Monticello, KY. He married Beverly Ewe on April 6, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church of Chillicothe. They had two sons, Gregory Horton who passed away earlier this year, and Eric Horton of West Peoria. Also surviving are two brothers, Raymond (Pamela) Horton of Chillicothe and Ellis Horton of Rome; one brother, David (Bonnie) Horton, who also preceded him in death. He is survived by twelve nieces and nephews, several cousins, and an Aunt, Betty Maarman of Kewanee.
Cecil was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict from March 1953 to July 1954.
Cecil loved having a garden every year, until he could no longer take care of it. He liked getting out in nature, hunting squirrels and rabbits, and fishing.
Cecil had several factory jobs including J & L Steel in Hennepin, Aldrich Co. in Wyoming, and lastly for a grain elevator, Akron Services, in Edelstein.
He enjoyed watching the Encore Western Movies on TV. His favorites were the "Magnificent Seven" movies or anything starring John Wayne.
We would like to thank the nursing staff at Cornerstone for their care of Cecil and also the staff at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home for rehab. Lastly, the wonderful care and concern shown by the OSF Hospice Team.
