Bernadine M. (Hughes) Watkins, 84, Chillicothe, passed away in Toulon on Tuesday, June 9, 2015.
She was born August 6, 1930 in Wyoming, IL to Bernard and Virginia (Knowles) Hughes. She married John F. "Bruce" Watkins on September 6, 1952. He survives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Bernard "Jim" Hughes; and one sister, Virginia Babb.
She is survived by her children, Nancy (Rex) Pence, John W. (Cathrine) Watkins, Bernard J. (Kathleen) Watkins, Phillip D. (Denise) Watkins, and Kathleen (Charles) Jordan; one brother, Gerald Hughes; as well as 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Bernadine was a devoted wife and mother, working at Frye's Five and Dime in Wyoming in her youth, and later as a medical assistant to Dr. Frank Brooks and Dr. Stephen C. Thompson. She was a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, husband, and watching the Cubs. The family would like to especially thank the Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Center. They provided her with loving care for many years.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 12, 2015 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Friends and family are invited to a visitation the night before on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe from 5:00-7:00 PM. A Rosary will be held for Bernadine following the visitation. Burial will be at Wyoming Cemetery, following the funeral mass. Fr. Keith Walder will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be made to The Alzheimer's Unit at the Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Center in Toulon.
