Barbara Pirtle

Barbara Irene Pirtle of Chillicothe passed away peacefully at 2:30 pm on April 10, 2016 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Chillicothe, Illinois.
Her memorial service will be held on April 13th at 6 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Chillicothe, Rev Ron Martz will be officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service time. Burial will be at the Chillicothe City Cemetery.
Barbara was born on March 29th, 1928 in Vincennes, Indiana to Verle Wilson and Gertrude Irene Foster. She was married on Nov. 16th, 1946 to Malcolm Leroy Pirtle. They shared 65 years together before he preceded her in death on December 8th, 2011.
Surviving are one brother, Verle Eugene Foster, and one sister, Vera Mae Koglin; her children Thomas (Leigh) Pirtle of Normal, Il., and Raymond (Kathryne) Pirtle of Addison, Il.; five grandchildren, Angela (Shane) Aldrich, Cory Becker, Travis (Liliana) Pirtle, Shelby Pirtle, and Morgan Pirtle and two great grandchildren Nolan Aldrich and Audrey Davis.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Richard and James and by siblings Carolyn Joy Ollier, Allan Foster and Charles Neal Foster.
Barbara worked for 24 years at Geiger True Value Hardware in Chillicothe. She was very active in the Chillicothe VFW Women's Auxiliary and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Chillicothe.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, knitting, baking, playing cards, bingo, and decorating for the Christmas holidays. She loved to cook large meals for family gatherings during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren that she adored.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Chillicothe VFW or Alzheimer's Foundation.
