Barbara L. Biggar, age 84, of Chillicothe, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Heritage Health in Chillicothe.
Barb was born on February 6, 1938 in LaPrairie, rural Sparland, IL to James and Mable (Bland) Biggar. She graduated from Sparland High School in 1956 and then from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1960. She started her teaching career at the Henry Grade School later that year. In 1961, she moved to the Sparland Grade School and taught there until she retired in 1997. She taught students grades 4th thru 8th throughout her career.
Besides teaching, her hobbies included flower gardening, crocheting, traveling, reading and she had an extreme love of animals and kids. She was a lifelong member of the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School teacher, choir member, secretary, treasurer and organist. She was also active with the LaPrairie United Presbyterian Women’s Group, including the Blanket Brigade.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Glen; her sister, Luella Kenyon; her sister-in-law, Shirley; her brothers-in-law, Harold and Norman; and her nephews, James Kenyon and Everett Biggar. Surviving are her sisters, Wilma Sieb of South Lyon, MI and Bernice (Francis) Read of Henry, IL and 10 nieces and nephews, Rodney (Jeanette Novak) Seib of Northville, MI, William (Sharon) Read of Henry, IL, Jackie Sieb of Lansing, MI, Robert (Julie) Read of Henry, IL, Don (Judy) Biggar of Sparland, IL, Jerry (Tammy) Read of Henry, IL, Tom (Cheri) Biggar of Henry, IL, Ron (Theresa) Kenyon of Sparland, IL, Donna Biggar of Wyoming, IL, and Kay (George) Ryan of Chillicothe, IL; 15 great nieces and nephews; 26 great-great nieces and nephews; and her two cats, Flip and Carson
