Alicia Ramos

Alicia Ramos, age 86, passed away on January 18, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Alicia was born on November 4, 1936 to Jose Antonio Gonzalez and Maria DelToro in Guadalajara, Mexico.  She married Tony Ramos in April of 1959 in Chillicothe.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother; one sister; and one daughter, Elisa Magdalena.

Alicia, known by her family as “Mama Esa,” was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and a devout Catholic.  She would bless her children and grandchildren upon leaving her home after a visit with a very long blessing naming each family member.  This would take quite some time but was appreciated by all.  She loved her family and always looked forward to their daily visits.  Her home was always the gathering place for family and friends.

She also loved to cook for her family and had many delicious Mexican dishes that cannot be duplicated to this day.  She learned English from watching soap operas and game shows but preferred to speak Spanish with her family. 

She is survived by her three children, Nicholas (Crystal) Ramos, Mary (Yassar) Al-khenaizi and Alice (Garcia) Smith; her grandchildren, Jessica (Shawn) Taylor of Maryland, Victor (Yesenia) Ramos of California, Elisa Ramos of DeKalb, IL, Alexis (Maria) Ramos of California, Nawaf (Chelsi) Al-khenaizi of Chillicothe, Sameer Al-khenaizi of California, Maria Al-khenaizi of Chicago and Salvador (Adrianna) Smith of New Mexico; and her great-grandchildren, Shawn, Kai and Zara Taylor, Alicia and Maya Ramos, and Zaiden, Tony, Marley and Cruz Al-khenaizi.  Also surviving is her brother, Jose Antonio (Carmen) Gonzalez and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the OSF nursing staff and the staff of OSF Richard L. Owens for their kindness and excellent care.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 11am at St. Edward Catholic Church in Chillicothe with visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Chillicothe City Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. Edward Catholic School.  Arrangements are under the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
