Alice B. Prentiss, 104, of Edelstein passed away on December 30, 2015 at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home in West Peoria.
Alice was born on December 16, 1911 in Putnam County the daughter of Frank H. and Jenny V. (Edwards) Allen. She married Benjamin G. Prentiss.
Alice attended Blackburn College, graduated with a Bachelors from University of Illinois and then a Masters from Bradley University in Special Education. She taught primarily in Sparland and was also a home advisor for the University of Illinois extension service for a short period of time.
Alice had many interests outside of teaching, she was a member of the Weavers Guild and volunteered a lot of time to Wildlife Prairie Park, Methodist Hospital and Lakeview Museum. She made most of the clothing that she wore, she has traveled seeing almost every country in the world.
Alice is survived by several nieces and nephews, Alice Frazier of Galesburg, Bill Biggs of Edelstein, Roger Pletsch of McNabb, Sharon Johnson of Meza, AZ, and Ron Pletsch of Mt. Palatine and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her sisters.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Blue Ridge Cemetery, near Chillicothe, on January 4, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Patricia Stetson-Warning will officiate. A short visitation will be held one hour prior to the graveside service at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.
