Alan C. Vonk

Alan Charles Vonk, age 60, of Edwards, formerly of Chillicothe, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by family.

Alan was born on June 5, 1963 in Peoria, IL to Bernard Raymond and Ruth Louise (Heitzman) Vonk.

Surviving are his daughters, Stephanie (Forrest) Blount and Lacy (Ryan Robertson) Williams, both of Chillicothe; his son, David (Molly) Vonk of Sulphur Springs, TX; his stepson, Strider (Natalie) Sommer of Gridley, IL; five grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; his siblings, Neil Vonk of Chillicothe, IL, Nancy Kaelin of Chillicothe, IL, Anita Ward of Chillicothe, IL, Christina (Tebben) Grafelman of Hanna City, IL and Lisa (Jeff) Bessler of Sparland, IL; and many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving is companion for 18 years and best friend, Luann Morelock.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdaughter, Shannon Sommer; his brothers, Ernie Vonk and Gerry Tyler; and his sister, Bonnie Vonk.

Alan was a CNC Machine Operator for Quality Metal Products for almost 40 years.  He loved fishing, camping, boating and mushroom hunting.  He was even known to many as The Mushroom King as there wasn’t a mushroom he couldn’t find!  Alan loved his family and enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 3pm to 6pm with a Celebration of Life at 6pm at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe.  Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  Memorials in his name may be made to St. Edward Grief Committee or the American Cancer Society.  Online condolences may be made through www.weberhurdfuneralhome.com
