Hazel Jeanette Ellison, age 97, of East Peoria, IL, formerly of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2020 at her daughter's home in Chillicothe, IL.
Hazel was born on May 23, 1922 in Alva, Oklahoma to Franklin Allen and Nelle Catherine (Lester) Gilmore. She married Robert William Ellison on November 9, 1940 in Las Vegas, NV. He preceded her in death on February 3, 1997. Also preceding her in death are her parents; her five siblings, Lester Jack, Raymond, Lois and Robert Gilmore; her son, Daniel Ellison; her granddaughter, Teresa Ellison.
Surviving are her daughter, Janelle (Bud) Harvey of Chillicothe; her grandchildren, Daniel (Susan) Ellison, Elaine (Michael) Rozell, Jesse Harvey and Luke (Kelly) Harvey; and three great-grandchildren, Robert, Katelyn and Collin.
Hazel was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. While in Oregon, she worked part-time as an assistant at the post office as well as a small electronics assembler. Hazel is one of the last of her generation, "The Greatest Generation," surviving The Great Depression, World War II and subsequent wars, 9/11 and COVID-19.
Cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no services at this time. Arrangements are under the care of Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe, IL.
