Gregory W. Horton, 55, of Peoria passed away doing what he loved, hunting mushrooms, on Monday, May 11, 2015. Greg was born on Oct. 7, 1959.
Greg had a very gentle and quick nature and will be missed so much by his family. He was inquisitive about things going on around him. He loved nature and walking in the woods hunting mushrooms in the spring. He spent a lot of time watching basketball (Bradley and Chicago Bulls), football (Bears), and baseball (Cubs) on TV. Most of all he loved WWE wrestling.
He always loved animals from childhood on up, especially his parents' two cats, Mandy and Chester. He also liked to listen to music.
He was proud of his apartment and was anxious to get back to it as he had been in a nursing home for the last six months.
Greg attended Chillicothe schools, last attending SEAPCO in Peoria where he played basketball. He mowed lawns for elderly people around Chillicothe and worked for quite a few years at the Community Workshop and Training Center in Peoria.
He loved to eat out at restaurants with his mom and was looking forward to taking a trip with family to Springfield this summer, where he had a favorite restaurant.
We know he is in the arms of our loving Lord and will be taken care of.
We wish to extend special thanks for all of the untiring volunteers and Search and Rescue teams from Peoria, Tazewell, and Fulton counties who diligently searched all day Monday in the rough and hilly terrain of the woods where Greg was finally found. Also to the Sheriff's Dept. and detectives who worked on Greg's case.
Memorial contributions may be made to TAPS Animal Shelter, 100 Taps Lane, Pekin IL, or a charity of donor's choice.
Greg is survived by his parents, Cecil and Beverly Horton of West Peoria; his brother, Eric; many cousins, aunts, uncles.
A funeral service will be held at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe on Friday, May 15, 2015 at 11:00am. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chillicothe City Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Martz will officiate.
